Fires in Manfredonia, discussion at the Prefecture. Mayor La Marca calls for more resources and prevention.

Organized crime may be behind the fires that affected the southern coast of Manfredonia and the Salso and Frattarolo nature reserves last weekend. This is why today the Prefect of Foggia, Paolo Giovanni Grieco , convened the Committee for Security and Public Order and listened to the Mayor of Manfredonia, Domenico La Marca, who reiterated the urgent need for resources for prevention and constant monitoring of the area, often neglected by the authorities.
"Prevention is lacking, and when these disasters happen, we fight them with limited resources, few men, and only 18 Canadairs to cover all of Italy. Imagine that to come to the rescue in Manfredonia, they had to take off from Ciampino and even Liguria. Absurd. And even ground relief efforts are weak because of staff shortages. This is what we asked for today at the roundtable."
Is the crime behind the latest fires? "It's not up to us to say. I know investigators are working on this front as well. We hope we can quickly find a solution to what happened."
