Inflation rises to 1.7% in June, shopping cart up 3.1%

In June 2025, according to preliminary estimates, inflation will rise slightly to 1.7% from 1.6% in May. Istat reports this, specifying that the increase in consumer prices on a monthly basis is 0.2%. The increase in the cost of living, explains Istat, is mainly attributable to the effect of the tensions recorded on the prices of food products (+3.5% from +3.0% in May). In the energy sector, on the contrary, the decline in prices on a trend basis is accentuated (-2.5% from -2.0%), driven by the strong deceleration of prices of the regulated component (+22.7% from +29.3%).
In June, the growth rate of prices of the so-called "shopping cart", i.e. food, household and personal care products, increased (+3.1% from +2.7%) and core inflation also increased (+2.1%, from +1.9% in May). Istat specifies that the prices of highly purchased products are also increasing, from +1.5% to +2.1% in June.
