Newborn baby abandoned in Calisese; maternal grandparents knew everything; investigated for attempted infanticide.

Newborn baby abandoned in Calisese; maternal grandparents knew everything; investigated for attempted infanticide.

Cesena, November 6, 2025 – Grandparents also investigated for complicity in attempted infanticide. This is the accusation made in the investigation, opened by the Forlì Public Prosecutor's Office, against the grandparents of the newborn abandoned on the street in Calisese. The parents of the 31-year-old woman , who gave birth to a baby at home on the night between October 29th and 30th and then abandoned him wrapped in a blanket near the dumpsters, are being investigated (along with the mother) for attempted infanticide . The grandparents were fully aware of their daughter's pregnancy, a statement from the Social Services of the Valle Savio Union essentially confirmed. But a few days ago, the baby's grandparents themselves declared on a Mediaset television program that they knew nothing. " We asked our daughter if she was pregnant ," they said, " but she said no, she only said she had an inflammation of the uterus ." Their statements immediately appeared surprising and not very credible.

Family context of hardship

The investigation , launched against the 31-year-old, has been extended to include her parents. The cognitively impaired woman gave birth to the baby and immediately abandoned him on the street, next to a garbage dumpster. The newborn was found hypothermic, was rescued and admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit at Bufalini Hospital, but his life is not in danger. The consequences on his development from several hours of exposure to freezing temperatures overnight remain to be assessed. This disconcerting case unfolded in a family context of hardship and fragility . The Public Prosecutor's Office (which has already questioned the woman in hospital) is conducting initial investigations to determine whether the 31-year-old was fully capable of understanding and willing at the time she abandoned her newborn. The woman lives with her family in Calisese, is employed, and has been diagnosed with a mild cognitive impairment , but is deemed by social and health services to be fully capable of self-determination.

The birth and the call to 118

On the night of the birth , an initial emergency call was made to 118 at the house in Calisese, where the woman lives with her parents (her 50-year-old partner does not live with her and is not involved in the investigation). However , upon arrival, the paramedics were sent away: "We don't need them anymore." After giving birth, however, the woman began hemorrhaging, and an ambulance was again called. When the paramedics returned, they realized that a birth had taken place , but the newborn was missing. Thus, with the intervention of the Carabinieri, the baby was found, having been abandoned in the street perhaps for several hours. Given the woman's condition, suffering from hemorrhaging, it is conceivable that the parents helped her carry the baby outside or at least clean the house of the signs of childbirth.

The new mother: "I didn't know what to do with it."

The new mother reportedly told the police and paramedics, with a lost expression, "I didn't know what to do with him." And yesterday she appeared on TV, in a Rai afternoon program, claiming that she had put the child out on the street "so that someone would find him and save him." She added: "I was afraid of my parents' reaction."

The 31-year-old , Followed by social services, she had begun a support program , at the end of which she intended to place the child in foster care. However, at the end of her pregnancy, she severed contact with the workers, while maintaining her intention to leave the newborn in the hospital. The woman's parents had also expressed their intention not to care for the child. At this time, social services are not involved in the investigation.
