Olive Oil, Mastro d'Oro Award for best extra virgin olive oil: Puglia dominates. A Vieste-based company also makes the podium.

The best Italian extra virgin olive oil of 2025 is from Puglia. This was announced in the seventh edition of the Mastro d'Oro Award, a national competition exclusively for olive oil millers and promoted by the Italian Association of Olive Oil Millers (AIFO) together with the Association of Olive Oil Millers of Puglia (AFP). The winning oil is produced by Frantoio Oleario Mossa Domenica of Sannicandro di Bari, with its Natyoure label. Two other olive oil products made in Puglia made it to the podium: Frantolio di D'Amico Pietro of Cisternino (Brindisi), which took second place with its Trisole label, and Azienda Agricola Il Mandrione of Vieste (Foggia), which took third place with its Tenute Mandrione, Riserva, and Gria – Bio Dop labels . "Third place and two special mentions at the Mastro d'Oro 2025!" commented the Gargano company. "Yesterday we returned from Maglie with hearts full and hands full of recognition: our oil was awarded at the 7th Mastro d'Oro Competition, part of the Mercatini del Gusto. This achievement excites and strengthens us, because it demonstrates the value of our daily work among the olive trees of Vieste. Thanks to those who tasted, listened, and supported us. We return from Maglie victorious—and even more determined.”
The winners – a note states – were selected by the Tasting Committee of the University of Bari, recognized by Masaf, according to scientific and objective criteria.
In addition to the national podium , the Regional Mastro d'Oro awards were presented for the best oils from each participating region, and the Monocultivar Mastro d'Oro awards, dedicated to oils produced from a single variety. Honorable mentions were also awarded to olive oil products. The Special "Mastro d'Oro 2025" Award will be presented at Evolio Expo, an event dedicated to olive oil and olive oil innovation, scheduled for January 29-31, 2026, at the Fiera del Levante in Bari.
"A DOP, IGP, or organic olive oil," says Alberto Amoroso, president of AIFO, "is born from the vision and dedication of those who work in the mill. Traceability, sustainability, certified quality—extra virgin olive oil today cannot ignore these values. The Mastro d'Oro wants to reward those who embody them every day." "The mill," comments Stefano Caroli, president of AFP, "is a cultural and environmental stronghold. The all-Apulian podium demonstrates that our region remains a benchmark for quality and innovation in the sector." ( Ansa )
