Ramy case: Two more Carabinieri officers at risk of trial for obstruction of justice: witnesses threatened to delete videos

Four Carabinieri officers are at risk of being prosecuted in the investigation into the death of Ramy Elgaml , the 19-year-old who died on his scooter after a long chase by the military on the night of November 24 in the Corvetto district of Milan, which ended with him crashing into a traffic light pole.

The Milan prosecutor's office has served a notice of conclusion of preliminary investigations for obstruction of justice against two Carabinieri officers from the 3rd Lombardy Carabinieri Regiment of the operational intervention team involved in the case: these two Carabinieri officers are different from those already investigated in July, one of whom is also accused of road homicide in conjunction with Fares Bouzidi , Ramy's 22-year-old friend who was driving the T-Max scooter that did not stop at the military checkpoint.

The order was served on the defendants' lawyers by prosecutors Marco Cirigliano and Giancarla Serafini . The Carabinieri under investigation for procedural fraud by the prosecutor's office are accused of manipulating the "corpus delicti" in order to "impede, hinder, or mislead the investigation" into the traffic accident that killed 19-year-old Ramy.

Specifically, the two Carabinieri officers, aged 27 and 38, allegedly forced a witness to "delete from his cell phone" a video containing the "phases" of the accident , according to the order cited by LaPresse. The recipients of the order, which preempts the request for indictment, were not part of the group of three Milan Radiomobile patrols that chased Ramy for 8 kilometers and nearly 20 minutes through the streets of Milan. They now have 20 days to submit statements or request to be questioned.

In addition to the two officers who were served with the notice of conclusion of the investigation, there are two other Carabinieri officers who, according to Milanese prosecutors, forced a witness to delete the video recording the crash that killed the 19-year-old of Egyptian origin.

According to the prosecution, the two Carabinieri from the Radiomobile unit destroyed "useful documents" to ascertain the truth about Ramy's "road homicide" by threatening an eyewitness: " Delete the video immediately... show me that you've deleted it... now get in the car because you'll get a complaint ," they told him while responding to the scene of the accident.

Compared to the two colleagues investigated only for procedural fraud, for arriving late on the scene and forcing a young man who was passing by to delete "9 files" containing "videos" of the accident, their position is aggravated by the fact that they witnessed the incident with their own eyes because they were present and therefore also answer for aiding and abetting the colleague investigated for road homicide since the beginning of July.

"I'll load you into the car and wait until we're done. Give me the ID so you can get a complaint," they reportedly told a second eyewitness who had recorded a video of the incident on his smartphone. The 37-year-old allegedly took a photo of the witness's "ID" with his phone and, after "a few hours," deleted it from his memory to "hinder the investigation" and prevent the "timely identification" of the "main eyewitness who was present at the events."
