Report on safe countries «Pending approval»

The case In a response from the State Attorney's Office to the Luxembourg Court, the update on the report that, according to the law, the government should have completed by 15 January
"The report has been prepared but is in the process of being approved. There has been a delay of a few weeks but it will arrive in the next Council of Ministers", the Italian State Attorney's Office responded to the Advocate General of the Court of Justice of the European Union. The occasion was the hearing held yesterday in Luxembourg on the preliminary references regarding the Italy-Albania protocol.
Thus, we have finally learned more about the report on the theme of "safe countries" that the government should have completed by January 15 and then sent to the competent parliamentary committees. This is what the law that last autumn transformed into a primary law the list of states whose citizens who request asylum can be subject to the accelerated border procedure (with detention) provides.
The report serves to replace the "country cards" that when the list was contained in an interministerial decree, an administrative act whose last update dates back to May 2024, were full of exceptions for categories of people in the main states that the Italian government has chosen to consider "safe". Often, critics note, these are the same ones that are at the top of the landings ranking.
At the end of January, +Europa MP Riccardo Magi had presented a parliamentary question to understand what had happened to the report. It is "in the process of being defined" the government had responded.
The "competent parliamentary committees" are now waiting confidently.
