Lecco, August 3, 2025 – Serious accident on State Road 36 just outside Lecco . A 68-year-old man was hit on the highway , which was closed to allow emergency responders to intervene.

The accident happened around 9.30am

It happened this morning shortly after 9:30 a.m., in the midst of the Sunday summer exodus, on the stretch between Lecco and Abbadia Lariana , heading north toward the lake and Sondrio. The circumstances of the incident are currently unclear. Rescuers from the Como air ambulance were mobilized to assist the 68-year-old, with a rescue technician, doctor, and nurse, as well as the pilots, on board. The paramedics were lowered to the ground by winch.

Interventions and rescue operations

Lecco Red Cross volunteers and firefighters were also on site. Highway police officers had to temporarily close both lanes to allow rescuers to safely hoist the vehicle. The southbound lane was later reopened, but not the northbound lane where the accident occurred.

Consequences on traffic

The consequences were devastating , with thousands of motorists and motorcyclists stuck in traffic. Moreover, there were no alternatives at that point: the only connection was State Road 36.
