Gaza Strike on September 19 and 22: Schedule and Participants

MILAN – Mobilizations in solidarity with the Palestinian population will fill Italy from north to south in the coming days. They begin tomorrow, Friday, September 19 , with a strike called by the CGIL (Italian General Confederation of Labour), currently followed by a strike on Monday the 22nd called by grassroots unions. Among the sectors affected are transportation, logistics, and infrastructure.
A nationwide strike is scheduled for tomorrow, but not for trains and planes.Filt Cgil – the Transport Federation of the trade union – has called a national strike for tomorrow involving all workers in transport, logistics, and infrastructure , excluding sectors such as rail, air, public transport, and maritime, which are subject to strike regulations . This is part of the CGIL's mobilization to stop the massacre in Gaza, "with the aim of promoting participation in all mobilization initiatives and sit-ins."
A clarification is needed. Essential public services regulated by Law 146, such as transportation, schools, and healthcare, will not be shutting down tomorrow; these services require notice of abstention much earlier. Therefore, as explained by CGIL General Secretary Maurizio Landini , who will participate in the Catania march tomorrow, "time is extremely tight."
The private sector, however, will be able to decide on the number of strike hours. Initiatives will be localized, including meetings, sit-ins, and demonstrations. "The four-hour strike at the end of a shift or during work will involve heavy vehicle drivers , freight transport and logistics drivers and employees, road workers at ANAS , regional and highway companies, and car rental , self-drive rental , and parking management workers," explains the CGIL Transport Federation. "In ports, workers can strike for up to 24 hours, with the exception of those working for companies whose activities may in any way affect constitutionally protected human rights."
Trains and local transport will also be affected on Monday 22nd.The situation on Monday 22nd is different. For that date, the grassroots unions CUB, ADL and SGB have announced a national general strike of all public and private sectors for the whole day, with the aim of "demonstrating unconditional support for the humanitarian mission of the Global Sumud Flotilla and demanding the protection of the volunteers committed to bringing aid to the Palestinian people". In this case, public transport , schools , universities and port workers could be involved.
For rail transport , FS has announced that the strike will affect the group's staff on Monday 22nd from midnight to 11pm. However, potential disruptions for travellers will begin as early as Sunday evening, at 9pm. No details have yet been released regarding air travel, while workers in local public transport , logistics and the maritime sector are expected to strike for 24 hours in various ways.
