Riello crisis: Carrier confirms its intention to sell, putting 160 jobs at risk.

Lecco, August 7, 2025 – Negotiations are ongoing to save the Lecco facility of Riello , the renowned boiler manufacturer, and especially the 160 technicians and employees who work there. The shareholders of the multinational Carrier , who have owned the all-Italian company since 2015, want to sell it.
They are seeking potential investors and buyers interested in the deal, but at the moment there is no certainty. Not only the unions but also politicians are working to prevent moves that could lead to the dismantling of the Lecco production site, which is a research and development center. They have met with company managers several times.
Politics"They have confirmed the procedures and timelines for initiating discussions with potential buyers," reported Antonio Pasquin , provincial councilor for Labor, and Lecco mayor Mauro Gattinoni . "We are convinced of the potential of the Lecco production facility and the added value it can offer, particularly in terms of research and development of innovative products."
Unfortunately, the situation remains deeply uncertain, as the route and sales process have not yet been defined. However, despite the initial standoff, an agreement seems possible.
"For our part, in close collaboration with Lombardy Region officials and each within their respective spheres of responsibility, we remain available to provide maximum support," is the offer from the regional councilor and the mayor of Lecco. Riello in Lecco, as in other places, has already been significantly downsized .
The ongoing operation appears to be strictly financial and speculative. Despite the announcement of the sale of the Riello group's assets and operations, the parent company has confirmed all short-term investments, including the construction of a climate chamber at the Lecco facility to study and test green and hybrid boilers and burners .
The financials are also positive. Riello was founded in 1922. It has always represented Made in Italy, but since the end of 2015, the company has been part of United Technologies Corporation , and since 2020 it has been owned by US shareholders Carrier Corporation. And now it's being sold again, with the risk that the employees, approximately 600 in all the group's plants, will also pay for it.
