Rimini queen of wellness: wellness runs along the Adriatic axis

Health, business, services, behaviors and participation: these are the values that guide the chosen indicators and that make up the Wellness Index 2025, developed by the Centro Studi del Sole 24 Ore. Some parameters were taken from the 35th edition of the Sole 24 Ore Quality of Life survey that measures the well-being of Italian provinces. In particular, three out of ten items are taken from the Sports Index , created by Pts. To which other new indicators have been added for a more in-depth measurement of wellness and fitness that can also include other areas: nutrition, business and territorial attractiveness, for example.
In summary, there are ten, among the many possible, indicators taken into consideration to paint the picture of the state of the art of wellness in the Italian provinces. Thus, the greater (or lesser) permeability of the territories to fitness, nutrition and sports proposals emerges. From North to South, there are eight provinces among the top ten of this ranking belonging to the Adriatic coastal strip, with Rimini leading the way in the synthesis of the ten indicators. The city of Romagna, queen of tourism that in these days hosts the 19th edition of the RiminiWellness fair, is therefore also a protagonist when it comes to wellness, physical fitness and health, thanks to a social and urban fabric that promotes and nourishes sport.
Completing the podium are Isernia in second place and Trieste in third. Also worth mentioning are nearby Pesaro and Urbino, in fifth, Forlì-Cesena (ninth) and Ravenna closing the highest part of the ranking.
Rimini stands out in particular for its first place in the Sports Business indicator but also obtains a high score for the number of gyms in relation to the inhabitants, placing second among the 107 provinces, while it is fourth and fifth in Italy respectively for the number of registered athletes and the amount of investments in sports. Alongside this marked propensity for sports business, as emerges from the different dimensions considered, it is instead only 87th when looking at the "sports choices" of the 5 per thousand assigned by taxpayers.
Although generally penalized in these rankings by the difficulties of "doing business", the South of the country, and in particular the provinces of Molise, Abruzzo and Campania, obtain flattering results. This is the case of Isernia, which leads the ranking of the choice of sports training, measured with the indicator of the number of registered students out of the total who have chosen the faculty of motor sciences as a university destination. The offer of swimming pools and gyms is also widespread (respectively in second and third place in Italy) while it is penalized by the low participation in sports and by the phenomena that measure business activities.
