Almasri case: Nordio, Piantedosi, and Mantovano at risk of trial: the reasons

The judges of the Ministers' Tribunal have asked Parliament for authorization to proceed against Carlo Nordio , Matteo Piantedosi , and Alfredo Mantovano . The two ministers and the undersecretary are accused of various crimes related to the Almasri affair, the Libyan torturer who was arrested and then returned to Libya on a state flight. According to documents from the Ministers' Tribunal, Nordio is charged with failure to perform official duties and aiding and abetting . Piantedosi and Mantovano are also accused of aiding and abetting the latter crime, along with the Minister of Justice. The Minister of the Interior and the undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers are also accused of complicit embezzlement . However, the government majority , reports Il Corriere della Sera, will reject the trial.

The minister: "Dismayed by Parodi's words, an unacceptable invasion."Regarding the charge of embezzlement brought against Minister Piantedosi and the Undersecretary with responsibility for relations with the Intelligence Services , Mantovano , because, "in collusion with each other, in the capacities and with the conduct indicated above, they diverted the CAI aircraft for temporary use, as well as appropriating the fuel required for the flights from Rome to Turin, Turin to Tripoli, and Tripoli to Rome, arranged not for genuine security reasons but for the sole purpose of helping Osama Elmasry/ Almasri Njeem, subject to an international arrest warrant issued by the ICC, to evade said warrant, thereby committing the crime referred to in the preceding charge. With the aggravating circumstances of having committed the act for the purpose of carrying out the crime referred to in the preceding charge, abusing their powers and violating the duties inherent in their public office ," the documents state.
