Arezzo, July 25, 2025 – Infrastructure: Democratic Party (PD) calls for government to explain delays in A1 third lane . "The expansion of the third lane of the A1 motorway between Incisa and Valdarno is a strategic infrastructure not only for traffic along the north-south spine of the country, but also for the livability and development of the Valdarno area. It is unacceptable that the final project, submitted months ago, is still stuck at the Ministry of Infrastructure. We ask the government to clarify the accumulated delays and guarantee a clear timeline for the project's completion," states a joint statement from Democratic Party MPs Marco Simiani, Emiliano Fossi, Simona Bonafè, and Laura Boldrini, who have submitted a question to Montecitorio (Italian Parliament) urging the completion of the motorway section and related works, including the Valvigna–Valdarno toll booth and the bridge over the Arno. "Press reports have raised serious concerns about the possibility that the resources initially allocated for this project have been diverted to the Messina Strait Bridge project. If this were confirmed, it would be extremely serious, penalizing an area already congested by traffic and severely affected by inadequate road systems. The government and Minister Salvini must make a clear commitment to protecting the Valdarno, immediately initiating procedures for final approval of the project and securing the resources originally earmarked," the statement concludes.
