Monte Croce Pass, Friuli Venezia Giulia aligned for a 4.1 km cross-border tunnel

A 4.1-kilometer cross-border tunnel will strengthen the connection between Friuli and Carinthia in a safe and sustainable manner. Twenty months after the landslide that blocked traffic along the Monte Croce Carnico Pass and 108 days after the partial reopening of state road 52, institutions, local administrations and economic trade associations met in Udine for a discussion which revealed that the construction of a new high-altitude tunnel is the most appropriate and cutting-edge solution. A canal that will ensure stability in economic, social, and cultural relations with Austria, overcoming the geological challenges affecting the current route.
We now await a discussion with the Carinthian representatives, and then, if approved, a feasibility study will be developed.
