'Unstable Earth': A Guide to Our Planet in 12 Podcasts

Variations in the Earth's magnetic field , false myths and truths about earthquakes in Rome , a journey to discover Italy's volcanoes : these are some of the topics addressed in the podcast series born from the collaboration between the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology and the ANSA news agency on the occasion of the organization's 25th anniversary . The series is titled ' Unstable Earth ' and, thanks to researchers at the INGV , offers an opportunity to answer the many questions that arise spontaneously when addressing constantly evolving topics , such as climate change and its effects on the oceans, geomagnetic storms capable of creating spectacular polar auroras but also threatening the functioning of satellites and electrical grids. It's also an opportunity to learn firsthand what happens in the seismic room , where dozens of earthquakes are detected every day, to learn how a tsunami warning is issued, or to take a trip to the Phlegraean Fields and take stock of what is known about bradyseism. The common thread that links all the topics addressed in the 12 podcasts is the uncertainty linked to events that are constantly changing and that we still can't fully understand. Admitting uncertainty when dealing with an unstable planet like Earth is the first necessary step towards finding answers . It's also a characteristic of scientific knowledge , which always recognizes its limits and finds the tools to overcome them.
