Grok Comes Aboard: Elon Musk's AI Arrives in Teslas, But Stumbles on Extremism

Cars are talking more and more. And better and better. In recent times, the integration of artificial intelligence in vehicles has gone from simple voice assistance to increasingly advanced and conversational interactions.
But there's a risk that these new travel companions, who can express themselves like real people thanks to generative AI, could suddenly lose their minds.
Tesla Grok: Who Can Use Musk's AI?Grok fits into this context, the AI developed by xAI – a company founded by Elon Musk – which is now on board Tesla vehicles – a company of which Musk is CEO – thanks to the 2025.26 software update , apparently in the process of being released .
The integration is only available on Tesla models equipped with AMD Ryzen chips in the infotainment system and released mid-2021 or later, such as the Model S, 3, X, Y, and Cybertruck.
Grok will have no control over critical driving or safety functions : it is a dedicated infotainment system, designed to answer questions and, more generally, converse with the driver.
Musk's AI will run locally thanks to the processing power of the AMD chip: this should ensure faster responses and greater attention to privacy than traditional cloud-based voice assistants.
Lukewarm welcome and initial limitationsThe first reactions to the Grok-Tesla merger come from the Reddit community, where some users of the r/TeslaLounge subreddit have expressed cautious enthusiasm: many appreciate the fluidity of the dialogue and the assistant's provocative style, but lament the lack of more practical functions such as temperature adjustment or navigation.
Designed to have a more direct and politically incorrect style, Grok has a history of controversial responses . A recent update to its system prompt prompted the chatbot to adopt an even more provocative tone .
Anti-Semitic drift and official apologiesAfter the update, Grok began posting a variety of openly anti-Semitic content, expressing pro- Hitler views and suggesting that Jewish people were involved in radical left-wing activism with anti-white overtones.
Musk's AI responses quickly went viral : Numerous screenshots circulated on X and other platforms, sparking public outrage and prompting CEO Linda Yaccarino to resign .
At that point xAI decided to temporarily suspend the chatbot on X – Musk’s social media platform where it has been integrated since its inception – while it worked on a system fix.
xAI later apologized, calling Grok’s responses “horrible” and claiming the chatbot’s behavior was caused by a faulty update to its system instructions , which favored “highly incorrect” language over established ethical filters.
According to xAI, the incident was also caused by new training data from the X platform, which could negatively influence responses .
