Meteorite that struck a house in the US is older than Earth.

Formed 4.56 billion years ago , making it older than Earth , the meteorite that survived entry into the Earth's atmosphere on June 26th and struck the roof of a home in the town of McDonough near Atlanta, USA, according to initial analyses conducted by researchers at the University of Georgia. According to estimates provided by NASA , the meteorite was 1 meter wide and traveling at 47,000 kilometers per hour . Entering the atmosphere in broad daylight, it created a bright trail clearly visible in the southeastern United States, so much so that the American Meteor Society has received more than 240 reports of sightings . Many people also heard a sonic boom. After hitting the roof of the home, the meteorite shattered , and one fragment even managed to create a dent in the floor of the house.

Of the 50 grams recovered , 23 were subjected to optical and electron microscopy analysis. The results indicate that the meteorite could be an ordinary chondrite with a low metal content . This classification implies that the space rock formed 4.56 billion years ago in the presence of oxygen , making it older than Earth itself. "It belongs to a group of asteroids in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter that we now think we can link to the breakup of a much larger asteroid about 470 million years ago , " observes geologist Scott Harris.
