27 people arrested for robbery of pedestrians in Mexico City

Officers from the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) arrested 27 individuals possibly linked to the crime of pedestrian robbery; the actions took place on the streets of the capital's 16 districts in 24 separate incidents.

Of the actions carried out during the first week of August, 18 were carried out by sector elements, five by the Auxiliary Police and one more by Banking and Industrial Police (PBI) personnel, as reported by the capital's security department through a bulletin.

The Cuauhtémoc and Gustavo A. Madero municipalities ranked first in arrests with five each.

In the Cuauhtémoc borough, police operations took place in the Ampliación Asturias, Obrera, Buenos Aires, Guerrero, and Santa María la Ribera neighborhoods; while in the Gustavo A. Madero borough, they took place in Martín Carrera, La Escalera, Magdalena de las Salinas, Forestal, and Salvador Díaz Mirón neighborhoods.

The Iztacalco municipality led the number of actions, where authorities arrested four individuals in the Gabriel Ramos Millán Section of Bramadero and Agrícola Pantitlán neighborhoods.

Likewise, in the eastern part of the capital, the Iztapalapa municipality reported two arrests in the same number of incidents, in the Santa Martha Acatitla and Ermita Zaragoza neighborhoods.

In the Xochimilco borough, authorities arrested two people in the Belén and El Rosario neighborhoods. Similarly, in the Venustiano Carranza borough, they arrested two more in the Pensador Mexicano and Artes Gráficas neighborhoods.

In the Coyoacán borough, security forces arrested two individuals in the Ajusco and Pedregal neighborhoods of Santo Domingo. Meanwhile, in Álvaro Obregón, they arrested two more individuals in the Olivar del Conde First Section and Second Extension of Presidentes neighborhoods.

Finally, the La Magdalena Contreras mayor's office recorded the arrest of three individuals in a single incident in the Santa Teresa neighborhood.

During the arrests, security officers seized 18 sharp weapons, a taped tube shaped like a weapon, and a motorcycle; while in 19 of the operations, they recovered cash, 11 cell phones, a handbag, a card, and a wallet.

It should be noted that after cross-checking information, it was learned that of the 27 detainees, 19 have been booked into the Mexico City Penitentiary System.

During the police actions, the detainees were informed of their rights and subsequently presented before agents of the corresponding Public Prosecutors' Offices, who will be responsible for determining their legal status.
