Deacon Carlos Camargo Zanoguera dies in Merida

After a long illness and at the age of 90, permanent deacon Carlos Alberto Camargo Zanoguera passed away this morning in Mérida.
Son of Florencio Camargo Pérez and Caridad Zanoguera Mézquita, he married Elda Bastarrachea Elías, with whom he had three children: Carlos Alberto (deceased in 2007), José Luis and Ariel Enrique.
In his youth he was a driver for urban transport. On December 27, 1984, after 32 years of work as a truck driver, he received the diaconate, even though there was not yet a school of formation for the ministry in Yucatan.

He and Mr. Alberto González Méndez were the first permanent deacons of the entity, since at that time the ministry had just been restored in the Church. He was trained for four years by the priest Luis Miguel Cantón Marín (who became bishop of Tapachula and died in 1990) and Monsignor Manuel Castro Ruiz, archbishop of Yucatán, whom he took with him to his activities.
Most of his ministry was carried out in the parish of María Madre de la Iglesia , in the Jesús Carranza neighborhood, where he founded the Movement of Parish Support for Adults, an apostolate that is still in force. For several years he worked with his nephew José Florencio Camargo Sosa , who was chronicler of Mérida and parish priest of that community until his death in 2013.
The body will be laid to rest at the Eternus funeral home (2-A Street between 9 and 9-A in Santa Gertrudis Copó ), starting at 6 p.m. today and until the same time tomorrow.

In addition to his widow and children, he is survived by his siblings Emma, Luis Alfonso, Rocío del Carmen and Guadalupe (María Mercedes died in 2017 and José Felipe in 2015); daughters-in-law Leny Pinzón Lizarraga, Fabiola Llanes Ricalde and Patricia Cardeña, grandchildren, nephews and other relatives who accept condolences.
