Marcelo Ebrard and Mara Lezama promote a development center in Quintana Roo with 16,000 formal jobs.

Marcelo Ebrard and Mara Lezama promote a development center in Quintana Roo with 16,000 formal jobs.

The Ministry of Economy , headed by Marcelo Ebrard , signed a coordination agreement with the governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama Espinosa , to launch the first Economic Development Hub for Well-being in Chetumal . This project is part of a national strategy promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum , which includes the installation of 15 similar hubs throughout the country and aims to promote investment, create formal jobs, and boost strategic sectors at the regional level.

The agreement establishes federal tax incentives, effective until 2030 , aimed at promoting productive investment and the growth of key industries in the region. Benefits include a 100% deduction on investments in fixed assets and an additional 25% for training and innovation .

According to official projections, the new development center in Chetumal could generate up to 16,000 formal jobs in five years , directly benefiting residents of the municipalities of Othón P. Blanco , Bacalar , and Calakmul (the latter in Campeche). The strategy includes boosting sectors such as:

  • Electrical energy
  • Agribusiness
  • Textile industry
  • Information technologies
  • International trade

These sectors were selected for their potential to boost the local economy and strengthen the southern part of the country's participation in national and international production chains.

Marcelo Ebrard emphasized that this initiative responds to a direct presidential instruction and constitutes the first official visit to one of these centers by the Ministry of Economy. He affirmed that this approach allows for combining economic growth with social welfare , one of the central pillars of the new federal administration's economic policy.

During the same event, the Ministry of Economy also announced that Chetumal will be the first city in the country to incorporate Taruk electric buses , produced entirely in Mexico. This decision makes Quintana Roo the first state to join Plan Mexico , a program focused on strengthening the national industry and promoting sustainable mobility .

Taruk buses are the result of a collaboration between Mexican companies , the public sector , and national research centers . The goal is to create a local alternative to public transportation that is efficient, modern, and environmentally friendly.

This announcement reinforces the comprehensive nature of the development hub, not only as a space for attracting investment, but also as a sustainable productive ecosystem that drives technological innovation , electric mobility , and the strengthening of the Mexican manufacturing industry .

Through his social media accounts, Marcelo Ebrard also highlighted the presence of cooperatives, small businesses, and entrepreneurships in the region, emphasizing that these will be a fundamental part of the new economic model. The development hub not only seeks to attract large investments but also to strengthen the local economic fabric , providing opportunities for entrepreneurs and cooperatives to participate in new productive projects.

This development policy combines infrastructure, investment, tax incentives , and support for local talent to transform Chetumal and its surrounding area into a regional center for innovation, production, and employment .

The signing of this agreement represents a watershed in the economic policy of southern Mexico , a region historically lagging in terms of investment and opportunities. The combination of tax incentives , productive infrastructure , and sustainable mobility offers an encouraging outlook for the coming years.

Furthermore, the support of the federal government and coordination with state governments such as Quintana Roo lay the foundation for a balanced regional development agenda , where economic growth also means better living conditions for the population .
