Rains affect nearly 20,000 passengers on flights in Mexico City.

Rains affect nearly 20,000 passengers on flights in Mexico City.

Nearly 20,000 flight passengers were affected by persistent rains in Mexico City (CDMX).

In this regard, Mexico City International Airport ( AICM ) reported that so far, 16 flights have been diverted, 3 have been canceled, and 120 have been delayed, with a total of 19,500 passengers affected.

As a result of the persistent rain that fell in the early hours of August 12, the AICM facilities were again affected, reducing their operation to a single runway.

Landing and takeoff operations were closed at approximately 2:13 a.m. and will continue until runway 5 Left – 23 Right reopens at 6:00 a.m. Runway 5 Right – 23 Left remains closed and is expected to reopen in the coming hours.

The adverse conditions are being replicated not only at the airport but also in the surrounding areas. Due to the accumulation of water outside the Hangars metro station on Line 5, service at the station was suspended for more than three hours.

The disruption to flights scheduled for this morning occurred just two days after the temporary suspension of operations due to the rains of August 10, reported by authorities as the heaviest of the rainy season, which left runways and aisles flooded.
