Reconstruction progresses in Oaxaca after Hurricane Erika

While leading the Regional Civil Protection Board to oversee the progress of aid to those affected by Hurricane Erika, Governor Salomón Jara Cruz highlighted President Claudia Sheinbaum's support for the population of the 12 affected municipalities.

From the headquarters of the 54th Infantry Battalion in Puerto Escondido , it was reported that to support the 23,679 damaged homes on the Coast and Isthmus, according to the Census conducted by the Federal Government's Welfare Secretariat , 38,276 sheets of sheet metal have been delivered to 2,734 homes in 27 communities.

The federal Welfare Secretariat reported that an estimated investment of 85 million pesos is needed to address the 20 IMSS Bienestar hospitals that were affected on the Papaloapan Coast and Basin .

In turn, IMSS-Bienestar has 98 medical units planned to be supplied with 1,663,614 medications.

Another task is providing care to 281 people living in seven shelters. Through Cofepris , 9,484 health risk protection actions have been carried out. And with the Ve'e Tata caravan, 6,083 health services have been provided in 86 locations.

Through the Tianguis Bienestar (Wellness Market) , 7,827 people from 31 agencies and communities have been assisted with the delivery of household appliances. The Federation, meanwhile, recognizes 310 affected schools, with a breakdown of 170 with minor damage, 62 with moderate damage, and 78 with serious damage; another 52 are pending evaluation.

In coordination with the Ministry of Economy, a diagnostic assessment is being conducted to restore financial dynamics in the region.

Through the Ministry of Health , medical units provided 2,059 services and performed 4,550 nursing actions.

For their part, the 12 territorial brigades for Strengthening Medical Care (FAM) deployed in coastal municipalities provided 1,308 cases of care and 1,500 nursing services.

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) reported that of the 916 power poles affected by Hurricane Erika, 845 were replaced, as were 48.05 kilometers of conductors.

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) reported that the 885 kilometers of affected federal roads have been fully repaired and restored. These include Highway 125 in the El Carrizal agency section, Putla Villa de Guerrero to Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, as well as Highway 175 Oaxaca-Miahuatlán-Pochutla, and the Oaxaca-Tehuantepec route.

They reported that machinery was used to rehabilitate 806 kilometers of state roads on the Coast and Southern Sierra . In addition, of the seven bridges inspected, four have been rescheduled for complete reconstruction.

The Oaxaca government reported that through the Oaxaca DIF System, 23,580 basic food baskets have been delivered to 166 communities in 30 municipalities on the coast, southern highlands, and the Isthmus.

Other aid included 4,265 kilograms of fresh produce to 23 locations, 16,195 liters of water, 381 mats, 2,500 tarps, 1,110 blankets, and 365 cleaning kits.

In turn, Caminos Bienestar (Cabien) has serviced 897 kilometers of 36 highways, which are now cleared, and maintains presence on 17 fronts, primarily on roads to agencies. It reported that the San Francisco Ozolotepec to San José Ozolotepec crossing was rehabilitated as of Sunday.

The local Secretariat of Infrastructure and Communications (SIC) announced that 32 roofs in 29 towns were damaged. Nine are being dismantled and 11 have been removed. 258 tons of structures and debris were removed.

Together with the State Forestry Commission (Coesfo), 1,446 trees have been removed in 38 communities in nine municipalities.

For its part, the Oaxaca Health Services (SSO ) has served 75 localities in 16 municipalities, treating 21.4 million liters of water; in nine municipalities, larval control has been carried out in 12,956 homes, benefiting 31,900 residents.

As part of the efforts to combat dengue, 2,047 hectares in nine municipalities have been sprayed, covering 25,168 homes. A total of 31,610 medical and nursing services have been provided.
