Search in Guerrero reveals evidence of rituals and disappearances

During the first day of searching for missing persons in the municipality of Tlapa , in the La Montaña region of Guerrero , families from the Luciérnaga collective found footwear, sinkholes, ritual areas, a black plastic bag containing a cell phone, and flowers.

The event began on Tuesday and continued yesterday with technological equipment and canines from the Ministerial Police, in addition to the participation of the Army and the National Guard.

This first search was carried out in ravines and hills in the Contlalco neighborhood, where families from the Luciérnaga collective used picks, shovels, and digging rods to search for possible buried bodies, but nothing was found.

Accompanied by the State Commission for the Search for Persons (CEBP) and experts from the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) , the families toured various areas of Tlapa, where they were aware of the existence of possible clandestine graves.

In a statement, the Tlachinollan Mountain Human Rights Center reported that the discovery of several objects, in addition to areas where worship was taking place on Tuesday, was considered evidence that someone had been in the area.

It was also reported that the CEBP used ground-penetrating radar to identify bodies or remains in difficult terrain; however, the device yielded no positive results.

Tlachinollan indicated that this is the first time that a georadar has been used in the La Montaña region of Guerrero , although authorities recognize that in these rugged terrains, the use of this technology is limited, because flat surfaces are required to provide accurate readings .

The operation then moved to another nearby site. There, they found skeletal remains in 2023 and, years earlier, the body of a young man. Ground-penetrating radar detected a possible anomaly at a depth of 50 centimeters, so the team excavated manually with the help of a trained dog named Flour. However, they only found wax remains.
