After years of ignoring calls from banks, insurance companies, or pollsters, Mexicans are now forced to answer, as the area code indicates a number from their own state.

The bank now feels closer than ever

“ I answered because I thought it might be someone interested in what I sell on Marketplace, but luckily, it’s always the bank,” one person marveled, pleased that the cell phone database is spread everywhere.

The change has generated such euphoria that several citizens have taken calls for the first time in years, some even responding enthusiastically.

For their part, banks claim that the measure seeks to reconnect emotionally with customers, reminding them that "it doesn't matter where they call from: the debt is always local," contrary to past practices, where aggressiveness and distance were already felt from the first call.

"We want the experience to be more personal. If you're going to owe a bank, at least make it one that sounds familiar to your neighborhood," said a telemarketing director tasked with contacting the entire board of directors in the city where he lives.
