Income tax season kicks off: what you need to know

Zero hour has arrived. This Tuesday, August 12th, the income tax return due date for individuals in Colombia began.

According to the National Tax and Customs Directorate (DIAN), between August 12 and August 29, 2025, individuals whose tax identification numbers end in 01 through 26 must file their income tax return for the 2024 tax year.
Please note that the specific filing dates depend on the last two digits of the taxpayer's tax identification number (TIN) and extend through October 24, 2025, the end of the tax season.
Who should declare?For this year, those who have gross income equal to or greater than 1,400 UVT ($65,891,000), assets exceeding 4,500 UVT ($211,793,000), or banking transactions, purchases, consumption, or credit card use that exceed the threshold of 1,400 UVT are required to file a tax return.

Those who were responsible for VAT as of December 2024 must also declare.
Please note that the filing dates for this procedure depend on the last two digits of your NIT (Tax Identification Number), which is assigned by the DIAN (National Tax Agency) to facilitate identification.
Deadlines in August- Tuesday, August 12: those who have 01 or 02 as the last digit of their NIT.
- Wednesday, August 13: Those who have 03 or 04 as the last digit of their NIT.
- Thursday, August 14: Those who have 05 or 06 as the last digit of their NIT.
- Friday, August 15: Those with 07 or 08 as the last digit of their NIT.
- Tuesday, August 19: Those who have 09 or 10 as the last digit of their NIT.
- Wednesday, August 20: Those with 11 or 12 as the last digit of their NIT.
- Thursday, August 21: Those with 13 or 14 as the last digit of their NIT.
- Friday, August 22: Those with 15 or 16 as the last digit of their NIT.
- Monday, August 25: Those with 17 or 18 as the last digit of their NIT.
- Tuesday, August 26: Those who have 19 or 20 as the last digit of their NIT.
- Wednesday, August 27: Those with 21 or 22 as the last digit of their NIT.
- Thursday, August 28: Those who have 23 or 24 as the last digit of their NIT.
- Friday, August 29: Those with 25 or 26 as the last digit of their NIT.
Sanctions to which you are exposed if you fail to complyIf you do not submit this form within the deadline, you will be subject to a late payment penalty, calculated as follows: - 5% of the tax due for each month or fraction of a month of delay. - If you do not have any tax to pay, the penalty will be 0.5% of monthly gross income, up to a maximum of 5%.
The minimum fine, in general, is $498,000, which is equivalent to 10 UVT in 2025.
