Spain receives 42 million in EU funds for roads and to prevent the impact of floods.

Spain receives 42 million in EU funds for roads and to prevent the impact of floods.

Spain has secured €42.1 million in European funds to finance 11 projects, including two to prevent the impact of floodwaters and others to promote an efficient and sustainable trans-European transport network.

The projects, validated by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, are part of the 2024 call for proposals from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).

Of the 11 projects , five would be developed exclusively in Spain by public and private companies, while the other six are EU-based with Spanish participation.

Within the line related to safe and secure mobility, five projects will receive approximately €20.5 million , and three of them will receive up to €16.6 million to finance the development of safe and secure parking zones (SPS) in Guipúzcoa, Huesca, and Zaragoza.

The other two projects will work on road resilience to climate change to prevent serious consequences resulting from environmental phenomena such as floods and other natural disasters, and total 3.9 million euros.

Six more are related to smart and interoperable mobility and will total approximately €21.6 million. Of these, four are earmarked for the development of smart transportation applications, worth €13.9 million.

The air traffic manager, Enaire, will participate in two more projects, along with other Spanish organizations, to manage air traffic in the Single European Sky.

Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) grants are awarded on a competitive basis , so the projects selected are those with the highest scores.

The potential beneficiaries of these funds are institutions or companies established in any of the European Union countries , which may apply either individually or as a group, as well as certain international organizations related to the infrastructure and transport sector.
