The unemployment report in Mendoza, analyzed on Aconcagua Radio

The provincial director of Employment and Training, Emilce Vera Espinoza, detailed the reasons she believes explain why a CEM report shows a year-over-year increase in employment in Mendoza.

A report from the Mendoza Business Council (CEM) , which has not yet been fully released, nevertheless offers encouraging data that the Mendoza government decided to share. This report highlights favorable employment data, contrary to what is happening in most of the country's provinces: a year-over-year increase of 1.1%.

To delve deeper into the data and its importance, on the program Hermoso caos, on Aconcagua Radio , they spoke with Emilce Vera Espinoza , Director of Employment and Training for the province .

The first question was about explaining what factors might have contributed to the favorable employment data in the province being reflected in this report.

According to Vera Espinoza, the provincial government is " measuring and monitoring the data , which is also important, and this reality responds to some specific characteristics" that the official went on to detail.

“First,” the Director of Employment explained, “ Mendoza has been part of that select group , which includes, for example, the province that leads the ranking, Neuquén, linked to the effect of the Vaca Muerta mine. So, what we see in Mendoza is that there are some activities that haven't taken off, such as mining, which we hope will give us more growth in terms of jobs. But Mendoza has continued with two very important things: on the one hand, in the face of a large loss of jobs, linked to everything related to public works, Mendoza has sustained public works, both provincially and nationally .”

For Emilce Vera Esponiza, the other key factor that has mitigated the effects of national economic policies that have harmed other provinces has to do with the relationship between public and private employment in Mendoza . In this regard, she explained that Argentina's poor unemployment figures "have occurred as a result of the number of people who were linked to the state, but Mendoza doesn't have as many workers, compared to other provinces, linked to the public sector. So that makes the impact on unemployment lesser."

The official also highlighted certain lines of work that have allowed Mendoza to strengthen itself . “Added to this is something that is not accidental: Mendoza has a line of active policies, such as liaison programs with the State, which began precisely during the pandemic and have been sustained throughout the two administrations we are currently undertaking. This also makes it possible to generate these jobs, and often, in a crisis situation, employers, who are somewhat hesitant about state support, hire registered personnel.”
