Mendoza elections: resounding victory for the alliance between Milei and Governor Cornejo

The electoral alliance between La Libertad Avanza and the UCR government in Mendoza secured a wide lead, securing four of the five seats up for renewal in the House of Representatives.
The Cambia Mendoza alliance (UCR and PRO) with Javier Milei surpassed 53.7% of the vote. In second place was the Justicialist Front Mendoza, with 25.3% and just one elected representative .
Thus, Defense Minister Luis Petri , a Radical Party member who joined the LLA to lead the violet list, once again occupies a seat in Congress, as he did in his two previous terms, between 2013 and 2021, representing the UCR and the PRO.
The second-place candidate on the Libertarian list, cornejo member Pamela Verasay , remains in the Chamber of Deputies; this will be her second term. The third-place candidate on the list, Libertarian Representative Álvaro Martínez, also retains his seat in Congress.
Fourth place could also go to the ruling party, Julieta Metral (LLA) from San Rafael.
The only Peronist elected will be Emir Felix , former mayor of San Rafael, who is hoping to run for governor in 2027.
The third-largest party, the Green Front, led by anti-mining lawyer Mario Vadillo, obtained 7%. It was followed by the Libertarian Front with 5%, the Left with 3%, and the United Provinces with 2%.
The difference in votes with Peronism allows Cornejo to maintain the majority in both chambers of the provincial legislature.
The Mendoza PJ maintains that the result represents an improvement over the performance of the last election, when they had less than 20%. And they maintain that they are well positioned for the 2027 gubernatorial elections, when Cornejo's term ends. Mendoza is the only province that, since the return of democracy, has refused to allow the governor's reelection.
"Better than expected," said the Mendoza government, which had to provincialize the campaign, amid complaints about Javier Milei's administration.
"I hope that with the result of this election, fears will be allayed and the economy will begin to grow, with wages and investment increasing," stated Radical Governor Alfredo Cornejo.
The governor of Mendoza spoke on behalf of the allied governors (Rogelio Frigerio, Jorge Macri, Leandro Zdero, Claudio Poggi, and Marcelo Orrego), but also included in his analysis those of the United Provinces, such as Maximiliano Pullaro, Ignacio Torres, Carlos Sadir, Claudio Vidal, and Martín Llaryora.
"We governors are interested in stabilizing the macroeconomy, increasing salaries, and increasing investment. If Milei's administration does well in the election, 10 or 12 governors will be able to influence the reforms in Congress," Cornejo asserted.
With this victory, Cornejo feels supported to initiate his own reforms: "I want to go down in history as the governor who revived mining in Mendoza," he confessed. The anti-mining and water rights movement has been highly combative in recent years and one of the strongest options governors have had in the last 15 years.
Mendoza ranks fifth in the nation in terms of the number of voters. It renewed five national representatives, 43 provincial legislators, and council members in 12 municipalities.
