The PP pays tribute to April 25th in the Provincial Council, which together with Vox agrees to eliminate in Las Corts

There was no cordiality last year because on April 25th, the Valencian Parliament eliminated the Guillem Agulló Prize for Hate Crimes; and this year, the atmosphere is tense because the anniversary commemorating the Battle of Almansa and the abolition of the Valencian charters has been completely ignored.
And with the connivance of the Popular Party, Vox has managed to eliminate an event that commemorates the importance of Valencian self-government. This year, the awarding of the Francesc de Vinatea High Distinction has even been eliminated. In the 2024 edition, the award went to all the security, emergency, and emergency services officers and services who participated in extinguishing the fire at the building in the Campanar neighborhood of Valencia.

This is the view of the Valencian Jurists Association, which is holding an event this Friday morning, just a few meters from the Corts (Spanish Parliament), at the Valencia Provincial Council. The event will include representatives from the PP, PSPV (Socialist Party of Valencia), Compromís (Compromís), and Ens Uneix (Uneix Ens Uneix). This is the second year that the institution, governed by the Popular Party (PP), with the support of the Ens Uneix municipalists, has hosted the event of Valencian Jurists, an organization particularly disappointed by the lack of support from the Valencian government and its partner in the Corts Valencianes (Valencian Parliament) on such a significant date.
"The Speaker of the Corts (Spanish Parliament) has made an unjustified decision and has done so in collusion with the PP, which is rejecting its institutional role in favor of having support in the budget," notes José Ramón Chirivella, president of the organization. Chirivella clarifies that this Friday's event is "alternative and substitutive" and emphasizes that if it was held last year, "this year it is even more so."

The far-right party's esteem for the anniversary was already evident last year, when Llanos Massó said that the date "is history, and requires no more memory than the recollection of events that actually occurred, and whose consequences must be analyzed by historians, not by politicians."
Given Vox's lack of enthusiasm for the aforementioned event, the decision regarding this Friday is not surprising. It will go from being a celebration to a mention, as an institutional speech will be read at the plenary session on May 15th, when parliamentary activity resumes in the chamber.

The Association of Valencian Jurists is working to secure its approval, having recently visited the Cortes of Aragon and the Catalan Parliament to discuss the situation with the parliamentary groups. They have also discussed the proposal in the Congress of Deputies with the Chunta Aragonesista (Aragonese Chunta) or Compromís (Compromís), from whom they are asking for express support.
