Owner and operator of Polish-made satellites tightens cooperation with NATO

Owner and operator of Polish-made satellites tightens cooperation with NATO

APSS is a multi-year, multi-domain, international initiative that aims to increase the exchange of satellite-based intelligence within NATO . The aim is to provide a complete, multi-domain, and integrated picture of information necessary for political and military decision-making.

The initiative aims to improve the Alliance's overall level of intelligence through more effective use of assets, space technologies and satellite data from member states and commercial entities , increasing the speed at which data from orbit is collected, aggregated and delivered.

The access of Allied Command Operations to ICEYE capabilities is expected to facilitate the delivery of better and faster data-driven analysis to decision-makers (earlier in March this year, ICEYE announced that it would provide data to the Situation Centre at NATO Headquarters).

ICEYE is the owner and operator of the world's largest constellation of SAR satellites (so far, the company has launched 54 satellites into orbit for its own needs and for customers, and plans are to launch 20 new satellites per year from this year).

As part of the Transporter-14 mission coordinated by Exolaunch and SpaceX, ICEYE is sending 6 new satellites into orbit on June 23.

SAR ICEYE satellites guarantee 25 cm terrain image resolution , and images are collected day and night, in all weather conditions, which allows for continuous monitoring of sea, land, and hard-to-reach places. The standard time from ordering an image to its delivery is 8 hours, although in some cases it is possible to provide data in less than 1 hour.

First operational mission of Dutch military satellite now completed

“Our proven satellites provide the intelligence information necessary for situational awareness and rapid decision-making by NATO and allied nations,” said Pekka Laurila, Chief Strategy Officer and co-founder of ICEYE.

The partnership with ACO is not the only good news for ICEYE this week. On Monday (June 23), the company announced that it had been selected to supply intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems to the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF). The first satellite for the RNLAF was launched within four months of the contract being awarded, a record time for the order. It is also the first operational mission for a Dutch military satellite.

ICEYE is the manufacturer and operator of the world's largest network of observation satellites, which are equipped with synthetic array radars (SAR), providing radar data in almost real time. The company provides customers with 24/7 access to data from any location on Earth, regardless of weather conditions, which allows them to detect and respond to changes. ICEYE provides satellite data, among others, to the NATO Situation Center. It cooperates with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

ICEYE CEO and co-founder Rafał Modrzewski comes from Katowice. A dozen or so years ago, when he was planning to set up a start-up, he held talks on financing his idea, among others, with the Katowice local government. At that time, no such possibilities were found. Ultimately, the company was established in Finland.
