46 people died in plane crash. "Many officers and civilians"
The armed forces said on Thursday, February 26, that the plane crashed while taking off from Wadi Seidna air base, with both military personnel and civilians killed. According to sources , one of the army's senior commanders, Major General Bahr Ahmed, was killed .
"The injured were taken to hospital, and firefighters managed to contain the fire at the crash site," the army said. As reported by the AP, the crash destroyed "a number of buildings." A military source had previously told the French AFP agency that the cause of the Antonov plane crash was a technical failure.
The Sudan Tribune newspaper portal published Dramatic footage from the scene shows people screaming as they search through the burning wreckage of the plane.

Among the victims was a high-ranking military commanderThe Wadi Seidna air base is one of the army's largest military centers in Omdurman, part of Greater Khartoum. The Karari Resistance Committee, part of a network of volunteers coordinating aid throughout Sudan, said at least 10 bodies of victims of the crash and several injured were taken to Al-Nao Hospital in Omdurman.
The Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been at war since mid-April 2023. According to the UN and local authorities, the conflict has claimed the lives of more than 20,000 people and displaced 14 million people in the country. Research by experts from American universities estimates the death toll at around 130,000.
