A man suspected of murdering his parents in the Iława district was arrested on Monday on the S6 expressway near Wojcieszyn, near Nowogard. Police officers from the district police stations in Goleniów, Gryfice, and Iława participated in his arrest.
On Monday morning (July 28), the Goleniów police department received an urgent report about a 28-year-old man suspected of committing a double homicide in the Iława County, who was driving a Mercedes on the S6 expressway. Officers from Gryfice, who were conducting field operations, located the car and initiated a pursuit. Despite clear visual and audio signals, the driver failed to respond and continued to flee towards the Goleniów County.
Police officers from Nowogard joined the operation, blocking vehicles in the town of Wojcieszyn. Moments later, a silver Mercedes approached the blockade, pursued by a Gryfice police car. The driver attempted to evade the vehicles but was unsuccessful. He was forced to stop the car, and officers began to arrest the suspect.
"The man initially did not respond to commands and refused to leave the vehicle. Only when an attempt was made to break the window did he open the door, allowing the officers to quickly and safely remove him from the vehicle, subdue him, and handcuff him," reports Senior Constable Martyna Kowalska from the Goleniów District Police Headquarters.
In the car, officers found an object that could have been used in committing a crime (police are not disclosing details) and bloody clothing. The man was taken to the Police Station in Nowogard and then handed over to officers from the District Police Headquarters in Iława, who are conducting further investigations.
Senior Constable Martyna Kowalska believes the successful completion of the operation was possible thanks to efficient coordination and good cooperation between officers from various units. "Officers from the Gryfice District Police Headquarters, leading the pursuit and providing real-time information on the vehicle's location, enabled officers from the Nowogard Police Station to set up an effective roadblock. Thanks to this, the dangerous man was quickly apprehended," she emphasized.
The murder occurred on the night of July 28th in the Zalewo commune near Iława (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship). The victims were a married couple: a 71-year-old woman and a 77-year-old man. The suspect in the crime, arrested near Nowogard, is the couple's son, who fled the scene in a car before police arrived.
