Death under the mast. Secrets of a police chase and the drama of Damian's family

A night chase, a police intervention, a hit officer, an escape through the fields and a dramatic finale under a telecommunications mast. 23-year-old Damian P. was the driver of a BMW that failed to stop for a road check. His body was found the next day by a random person. The prosecutor's office is conducting an investigation, but doubts in this case haunt the family.

It all started on March 7, 2025 , around 11:30 p.m. in Kozłówki . Police officers from the Bełchatów traffic police wanted to stop the BMW for inspection, but the driver ignored the signals and started to flee.

- At first everyone was shouting for us to run away, but after a while everyone started shouting for us to stop. But Damian didn't talk to us. He just kept driving - recounts Kacper, a participant in the events.

When the officers managed to stop the car, several drunk men ran out and ran around the area. They managed to arrest two of them the same day. The others the following day.

During the hearing, it was determined that all of them were passengers, and that Damian P. was behind the wheel of the BMW. On the same day, at around 1:30 p.m., a resident of the Szczerców commune walking her dog came across the body of a young man near a telecommunications mast. It turned out that he was the 23-year-old driver of the vehicle.

According to the prosecutor's office, Damian P. was supposed to have climbed the mast and fallen from a height, which was confirmed by the forensic medical autopsy . Damian's relatives and friends have not believed the official version of events from the beginning. They emphasize that the boy had a strong fear of heights and serious knee problems. They do not believe that he would have been able to climb the 60-meter mast, especially without a stabilizer, which he did not have that day.

- Get on the ladder and jump from this side. If you were an acrobat, if you jump from this, if there was some step here, you could get through, you would. But you would never get through such a slant.

Family and friends who saw Damian's body before the funeral say he looked as if he had been beaten . They say the marks are not consistent with injuries typical of a fall from a height.

- We also want this case to be resolved as soon as possible. There was a tragedy, a young man is dead, an unfortunate accident occurred - says the spokesperson of the District Police Headquarters in Bełchatów, Senior Commissioner Iwona Kaszewska.

There are also reports of brutal treatment of those detained by the police – one of the passengers reportedly regained consciousness only in the police car.

- Another friend there, who was arrested, mentioned that when the policeman had already put him on the ground, he told him that he could shoot him, that he could shoot us, but he didn't want to explain himself for the next punks, because he had already shot one - says Kacper, Damian's friend.

Damian P.'s family accuses the police of negligence in securing the scene of the tragedy . Many of the circumstances of the young man's death remain unexplained, and the official version does not withstand confrontation with facts and common sense.

- When I go upstairs to his room, I say, Damian, what have you done? You look around the room, that's all, nothing's been touched. If he left it, nothing's been touched. It's too early to... It's too early to touch it, let it be - says Agnieszka Pawełoszek, the boy's distraught mother.

Due to growing doubts , the investigation was taken over by another unit of the prosecutor’s office in order – as the investigators emphasise – to ensure full objectivity of the proceedings.

Will Damian's family get answers to their questions about the circumstances of his death? Will the investigation explain what really happened during the night chase and under the telecommunications mast? The family drama continues, and in this case there are still no clear answers.
