District Polish Cup for KS Wiązownica

Penalty kicks decided the matter in the final of the district Polish Cup, in which the two currently strongest teams in our region, KS Wiązownica and Pogoń-Sokół Lubaczów, faced off.

The match was played at the Wiązownica stadium and had no favourite. The Lubaczów team played for the first time under the leadership of Łukasz Surma's previous assistant - Paweł Słomiany. The former was dismissed by the board after a dramatic home defeat to Siarka Tarnobrzeg 1:6.

Szymon Szydełko's team defended and defended the trophy. After a series of penalties, in which Jakub Osobiński shone. He was defeated only once. This was the third meeting of these teams this season, which ended after 90 minutes with the same result, i.e. 1:1.

The first half was a bit boring. There was too much chaos on both sides, easy losses of the ball, inaccuracies and feigned consistency in the game. There were no goals either, but the visitors had more clear chances.

The second half was no better, with one caveat: goals were scored. Two. The hosts were given the lead by Przemysław Zieliński, who finished a cross by Grzegorz Janiczak with an accurate header. At the last moment, the Lubaczów team extended their hopes of lifting the large trophy, when the experienced Adam Imiela defeated J. Osobiński. It probably would have been useless if Ihor Hatala's shot in the 66th minute had ended up in the net instead of on the crossbar.

Extra time is chess. No one wanted to reveal themselves, waiting for the lottery, which was undoubtedly a series of penalties. In this one, the aforementioned J. Osobiński performed better. The Pogoń-Sokół players found a way to him only once.

KS Wiązownica advanced to the semi-finals of the Polish Cup at the level of the Podkarpackie Football Association. But much more important for both it and Pogoń-Sokół will be the fight to maintain the status of a third-league team.
