On Friday (July 4), this year's eighth-graders could finally check how they did in their May exams. The District Education Commission reports on how they fared in Western Pomerania. Students in our region did best in the Polish and English exams.
Approximately 14,270 people out of 14,435 eighth-grade primary school students took the exam in May 2025 in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. This number includes 650 students from Ukraine.
In the Polish language exam, the students demonstrated good knowledge of phraseology, in mathematics - calculating units of time and understanding texts written in English (it was the most frequently chosen modern language by students from Western Pomerania).
- The results of this year's exam show that in Polish, students coped well with the task that tested the ability to recognize phraseological units in statements, understand their meaning and use them correctly in statements. In mathematics, students coped best with the task that tested the ability to calculate time for a given distance and speed. In the modern foreign language exam, eighth-graders who took the English exam achieved the highest average score for solving a closed task that tested the understanding of written texts - informs the District Education Commission in Poznań.
However, eighth graders had problems with the task testing knowledge of punctuation in the Polish exam - they had to insert the missing three commas in a given fragment of a text. In mathematics, the most difficult task was open geometry, and in foreign language - an open task testing knowledge of linguistic means. Candidates had to translate two phrases given in brackets and at the same time maintain the grammatical meaning of the sentence.
According to data provided by the CKE, the average exam results in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship are as follows: for solving tasks in Polish, eighth-graders obtained an average of 61% of possible points; in mathematics - an average of 45% of possible points. For solving tasks in a modern foreign language, they obtained an average of: in English - 69% of points, in German - 57% of points, in Russian - 93% of points.
The largest number of students – over 95 percent – took the English language exam.
According to CKE data, the best results were achieved by students from large cities (over 100,000 inhabitants). They wrote Polish at an average level of over 63%, mathematics at 52%, and English at 74%.
In Poland, the average exam results are as follows: Polish language 64%, mathematics 50%, English language - 70%.
The English language exam was passed by 97.3% of students throughout Poland.
Let us recall that the eighth-grade exam was conducted on 13-15 May this year. These were exams in Polish, mathematics and a modern foreign language. It was taken by eighth-grade primary school students, students of art schools providing general education at the level of primary school and students from Ukraine legally residing in Poland.
