Germany: Shooting outside courthouse leaves several people injured

Shots were fired near the courthouse in Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia in western Germany. Several people were injured, German media reported. They linked the incident to the ongoing trial for the murder of a professional boxer.

After 1 p.m., shortly after the trial ended, shots were suddenly fired about 150 meters from the courthouse exit. It is not yet known whether the perpetrator has been detained by the police.

The trial for the murder of boxer Besar Nimani began at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police are on the scene. According to the Tagesschau website , several people were injured .

Eyewitnesses say that several wounded people are lying on the ground, and in the case of two, resuscitation was necessary. They are said to be the father and brother of the accused in the trial.

Police are treating the injured, rescuers are currently on their way to the district court, the police told WDR.

The trial for the murder of 38-year-old boxer Besar Nimani began at 9 a.m. at the Bielefeld District Court. The shots were fired suddenly at an intersection in front of the building, after the main hearing had ended.

Earlier, at one of the hearings in this case, the sister of the killed boxer allegedly tried to bring a knife into the courtroom, but - according to the defense attorney - she had to give it up during a check at the entrance.
