Is a fight brewing in the coalition? All eyes are on Donald Tusk

PSL wants to reverse the regulations introduced by Law and Justice regarding the maximum two-term limit for mayors, city presidents and commune heads. Onet reports that a battle is being prepared in the coalition over this. The Left is opposed to this project. "The 'peasants' want to cement their mayors," assessed one of the politicians. Poland 2050, which until recently formed the Third Way with the Polish People's Party, is also skeptical about the idea.
The ruling coalition is divided by the PSL idea. "It is outdated. Times have changed"There is no shortage of doubts in the Civic Coalition itself, with politicians' opinions divided. "I think there is no going back to multiple terms. It is a thing of the past. Times have changed. It was not uncommon for the opposition in some cities to be afraid to put up their candidate against a president for fear of being ridiculed. And this is very damaging to the government. I think that airing out these offices at least once a decade would do no harm," commented the KO MP.
The biggest lobbyist in the Civic Platform for the return to the old regulations is supposed to be Jacek Karnowski, who was the mayor of Sopot for many years and is currently the deputy minister of funds and regional policy. - Local communities have the right to choose the leader they want. We have a certain inequality here. After all, Mr. Chairman Kaczyński can sit in parliament for over 30 years - the politician argued recently.
Two-term rule in local governments. How will Donald Tusk react to the PSL proposal? The Polish People's Party's project is due to be submitted to the Sejm in the coming days, and Donald Tusk's opinion may be decisive in this matter. The PO chairman has not yet spoken out on the project. "The prime minister does not have a position on this issue at the moment," is heard in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.
