IX Dominiak: Krzysiek's Tournament Continues

The idea of organizing a football tournament in memory of Krzysztof Dominiak was born in 2017, shortly after his death. A man passionate about sports, he channeled his passion not only into his own physical activity, but above all, into organizing active recreation and providing sporting experiences to others. Especially those who, for various reasons, had interrupted or retired from competitive sports. Hence his involvement in organizing mass events, where sport and recreation were the dominant theme, and his involvement in competitions for older players.
He and his friends rented a pitch from a former military unit in Krówniki to play football and prepare for higher-stakes matches in official tournaments. It was there, shortly after his death, that the first tournament, unfortunately named after him, was organized.
The ninth tournamentKrówniki was the destination for old-school football six times, and from 2023, Polonia Przemyśl has donated its facility for the tournament. Krzysztof's numerous friends from sports and culture watched the tournaments both in Krówniki and at Polonia, including the Pectus team, who, as a show of affection for Krzysztof, left their musical instruments in the locker room and joined the competition on the pitch. Regular participants in the tournaments were the most famous Polish footballers – Grzegorz Lato and [paywall] Jan Domarski, active on the pitch but also as referees, reviewers, and commentators. The third, and the international version, was referee Zygmunt Ziober. In the eight tournaments played so far, he has never been absent. Unfortunately, a cruel illness took Zygmunt from this world just before the ninth, where, with a constant smile, he would once again admonish his teammates and encourage fair play. Just before the tournament began, the participants honored his memory with a minute of silence.
Regular participants in tournaments held so far include Witowianka from Witoń – Krzysztof's birthplace; Partyzant from Wieliczka – a team befriended by the Przemyśl Oldboys; and a team mockingly dubbed Drink Oldboys by Dominiak. Before the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, the Karpaty Lwów Oldboys team participated in the tournament.

The course of the tournamentThe tournament was played in a knockout format on smaller pitches set across the main pitch. In the qualifying round, the Blues defeated the Whites 3-2, and in the second match between Partyzant and Witowianka, the match ended in a 2-2 draw after regulation time, with Witowianka winning the match in a penalty shootout. The team from Wieliczka took third place, defeating the Whites 4-2. The tournament was won by the Blue Drink Oldbojs team, who proved ruthless against the visiting team from Witoń, winning 8-1. The matches were refereed by Wiesław Rowiński and Tomasz Gudzelak.
EndThe ninth tournament ran very smoothly. Most importantly, the participants finished it in good health, satisfied with having tested their football skills. The tournament was summed up by the tournament's "commander," Adam Lisowiec, accompanied by Dominiak's daughters, Ania, and Agnieszka, the main documentary filmmaker for the tournament so far, and Jan Domarski, who this time acted as a VIP representing the Rzeszów Football Association. Adam Lisowiec thanked the tournament participants and those who helped him organize the tournament: Andrzej Wojas, Michał Bogucki, and Edmund Matrejek. He and Agnieszka invited everyone to participate in the tournament planned for next year, perhaps as a memorial for Krzysztof and his dear friend Zygmunt. Both were true to the principle that "the tournament goes on and must go on."
