The unemployment rate calculated according to the Labour Force Survey (LFS) in Q4 2024 amounted to 2.8% in Poland, compared to 2.9% in the same period of 2023, the Central Statistical Office reported.
The economic activity rate was 58.5% in Q4 2024, compared to 58.6% in the previous quarter, while the employment rate was 56.8%, compared to 56.9% previously.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, the number of economically active people aged 15-89 amounted to 17,742 thousand, of which: 17,247 thousand were employed, while 495 thousand were unemployed.
The economically active population decreased compared to the third quarter of 2024 (by 56 thousand people, i.e. by 0.3%) and compared to the fourth quarter of 2023 (by 128 thousand, i.e. by 0.7%).
According to data from the Central Statistical Office, 16,127 thousand people (i.e. 93.5 percent) worked full-time, while 1,120 thousand (i.e. 6.5 percent) worked part-time.
The average number of hours worked in the survey week at the main place of work was 37.9 hours.
In the total number of employed persons, the share of employees in public companies/institutions or with a private employer amounted to 81.3% (14,028 thousand people), the self-employed – 18.2%, and unpaid family members helping – 0.5%.
The vast majority of employees employed in public companies/institutions or by private employers performed their work on the basis of a contract for an indefinite period (84.8%, i.e. 11,893 thousand people).
Taking into account the type of activity of the workplace, in the fourth quarter of 2024 the largest declines in the number of employed persons compared to the previous quarter were recorded in the Agriculture, forestry, hunting and fishing section (by 54 thousand people) and in the Professional, scientific and technical activities section (by 49 thousand).
The largest increases were observed in the number of persons employed in the Healthcare and social work section (by 55 thousand) and in the Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles, including motorcycles section (by 46 thousand).
Compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, the largest decreases in the number of employed persons occurred in the Agriculture, forestry, hunting and fishing section (by 165 thousand people) and in the Accommodation and food service activities section (by 62 thousand), while the largest increases – among those employed in the Transport and storage section (by 93 thousand) and in the Education section (by 72 thousand).
The number of people working from home, usually or sometimes, amounted to 2,590 thousand people, which constituted 15.0 percent of all employed people.
