"We are thinking not only about the current conflict, but also about what might arise in the near future," declares Lieutenant General Dariusz Parylak, commander of the Northeastern Corps in Szczecin. The Corps organized Polish Army Day celebrations on Wednesday. During the ceremony, Brigadier General Artūras Radvilas from Lithuania, who has assumed the newly created position of Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil-Military Cooperation and Strategic Communications, introduced himself to journalists.
Its establishment is a response to a new type of threat that is increasingly affecting the security of the Baltic region. NATO relies on the civilian infrastructure of its host nations to carry out many of its military missions, and in crisis situations, rapid and coordinated action by military and non-military institutions is essential. Monitoring and combating destabilizing activities is one of the Alliance's long-term goals.
"Today, combating propaganda and disinformation is very important," said Artūras Radvilas. "The second aspect is civil-military cooperation. Military operations cannot be conducted without close cooperation with representatives of local and national authorities. They allow us to improve our operations. I am glad to have returned to the Corps after 15 years. I served here as a major."
The Corps Commander, Lieutenant General Dariusz Parylak, emphasized that strategic communications isn't something that can be done twice a week. It must be a continuous process. The General is also committed to communicating the Corps' activities to the public. The first important communication-related task is the next exercise in which the Corps will participate – the "Avenger Triad" exercise, scheduled for October. Importantly, it will take place after the Russian "Zapad" exercises. ©℗
