This week's heatwave is approaching its peak. Forecasters predict temperatures will reach as high as 33°C on Thursday. Orange, level 2, alerts have been issued for some provinces. The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) recommends drinking plenty of water and avoiding outdoor activities.
The weather in Poland has become truly summer-like, which may be cause for concern. Temperatures across the country are expected to exceed 25°C on Thursday, and the heat will be intensified by a cloudless sky , with only a few scattered clouds in places. The challenging weather conditions will be felt most severely by residents of the southeastern voivodeships.
This is the result of tropical air—dry and hot—flowing into Poland starting Wednesday. The effects of this heat wave will be felt at least until Saturday morning.
Weather forecast. A hot long weekend is in the cards.On Thursday, daytime maximum temperatures will range from 25°C in northern Podlasie and Masuria to 33°C in the south, west, and locally in the center . Winds will be light across most of the country, and moderate along the coast, from the east.
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management has issued orange and yellow heat warnings . A second-degree warning applies where temperatures exceed 30 degrees Celsius. This applies to the following voivodeships: Lubusz, Greater Poland, Lower Silesia, Opole, Silesia, and the eastern parts of West Pomerania and Lesser Poland.
The first-degree alert applies to the northern part of the West Pomeranian and Greater Poland voivodeships, the south-eastern counties of Warmian-Masurian and Pomeranian, and most regions of the Masovian, Lublin, Świętokrzyskie, Podkarpackie and Lesser Poland voivodeships.
Weather warnings are in effect until 8:00 PM on Friday. August 15th , the start of the long weekend, will also be a hot day. According to IMWM forecasters, hot weather will prevail throughout Friday's holiday break across almost all of Poland, with the exception of the Tatra Mountains, where scattered showers are possible.
Maximum temperatures on Friday will range from 27 degrees C in the northeast, around 31 degrees C in the center, to 34 degrees C in the west . Slightly cooler by the sea – 23 degrees C to 26 degrees C in places. Light to moderate winds, from the south and east, turning to the west in the west. Thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 65 km/h are also possible .
On Saturday, the heatwave will move over the eastern voivodeships and remain in the central region. Maximum temperatures are expected to range from 20°C in Pomerania to 30°C in the Lublin region. Thunderclouds and lightning will form more frequently, making the air fresh and pleasant. On Sunday, thermometers across the country are expected to remain at 26°C, and the weather will become even rainier and windier.
