This unusual animal escaped from the zoo. Urgent message issued: "Please do not approach"
Employees of the Poznań Zoo announced on Monday that they are conducting an intensive search for a red panda that escaped from its enclosure.
"One of our red pandas left its enclosure – most likely as a result of third parties damaging the security. We are currently conducting an intensive search," we read in a post on the Poznań Zoo's Facebook profile.
Zoo workers urged people not to approach the animal or try to catch it.
"If anyone sees a red panda outside its enclosure, please contact us immediately via our Facebook page. We kindly ask you not to approach the animal or try to catch it – it is best to inform us of its location immediately," the zoo staff said.
It was added that the panda can walk on the ground, but can also be found in the treetops, as pandas are excellent climbers.
In one of the comments under the entry, a concerned internet user asked whether the animal is able to survive on its own in Polish climatic conditions.
"Pandas are not afraid of winter conditions, because they are let out into the enclosure even in frosty weather," the zoo workers reassure.
