Two 23-year-olds involved in the murder of a young man outside a liquor store in Police will spend the next three months behind bars, a Szczecin court ruled Wednesday afternoon.

"The prosecutor from the Szczecin-Zachód District Prosecutor's Office continued to investigate suspects in the murder case until late in the evening. Mateusz G. has been charged with murder. Dawid Sz. has been charged with participating in a beating with a dangerous weapon, which resulted in the victim's death. The victim died from a stab wound to the neck," said prosecutor Julia Szozda, spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Szczecin, on Wednesday morning. "Motions for pretrial detention of both suspects will be filed in the coming hours."

Interestingly, the prosecutor had until noon on Thursday to file a motion to arrest him. But he decided he didn't need that much time.

And he wasn't mistaken. The court granted the motion to detain both men.

Suspects face severe penalties. Murder can result in up to life imprisonment – a crime for which the court cannot sentence the accused to less than 10 years. Participation in a fatal assault carries a maximum prison sentence of 12 years.

Three other people, aged 18, 21, and 45, were arrested in the case. They were charged with aiding and abetting, meaning they helped Mateusz G. and Dawid Sz. avoid punishment. This includes hiding them. The abetting charge carries a penalty of up to five years in prison. The prosecutor stated that in the case of these three, there was no need to impose preventive measures.

He was supposed to help in arresting some of the suspects, this is information from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Szczecin, a call to 112.

The crime that shocked the public occurred last Sunday morning outside a 24-hour liquor store on Wyszyńskiego Street in Police. It is known that a brawl broke out between the young men – the prosecutor's office is not yet releasing details at this stage of the investigation. The argument ended with the 29-year-old being stabbed in the neck area. Emergency medical services were provided, but unfortunately, to no avail. Joachim died in hospital.

Mateusz G. and Dawid Sz. fled the crime scene. They went into hiding. Police decided to release their images. The 23-year-olds' escape from justice didn't last long. On Tuesday, they were arrested by West Pomeranian police officers and brought before a prosecutor. ©℗

I think everyone understands that these people will be released someday, and it won't be any kind of rehabilitation. They'll vote for the party that adds the death penalty to the code.

Aren't they in custody yet? Is the prosecutor's office still considering whether they want to be arrested? Is this some kind of joke? If they had a bag of herb, they'd automatically get three months in jail, and yet someone's still wondering. No, it's best to take them home and apologize for the inconvenience. If they don't get arrested, it will be the ultimate proof of the collapse of the justice system in this country.

judges will finally understand that people are put in prison to ensure the safety of normal people, not for some imaginary rehabilitation.

Do you want to be arrested? Usually, immigrants are given some kind of equality under police supervision?

Is arrest not mandatory for such charges? Only the prosecutor's office might want such a preventive measure? Not to mention that they fled the scene and all of Poland was searching for them.
