Ukrainian historian threatens Mentzen with assassination. MP demands MFA reaction

Confederation presidential candidate Sławomir Mentzen appealed on Wednesday to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to respond to the words of a Ukrainian historian who, according to Mentzen, threatened him with death in response to his recording regarding Ukrainian nationalist Stepan Bandera.
Mentzen published a recording on the X platform on Tuesday, in which, while in Lviv under the monument to Stepan Bandera, he argues that Ukrainians must end the cult of the criminal as soon as possible. Bandera is responsible for organizing the genocide of Poles in Volhynia.
Ukrainian journalist and historian Vakhtang Kipiani commented on Mentzen's recording on portal X.
"The Polish presidential candidate Mentzen, known for his declaration from a few years ago - "we don't want Jews, homosexuals, abortion, taxes and the European Union" - came to Lviv and recorded a video at the monument to Stepan Bandera. He accused the OUN chief of "killing a hundred thousand Poles". This scoundrel dreams of Pieracki's glory. "We can repeat it" - wrote Kipiani. Bronisław Pieracki was a Polish politician, Minister of Internal Affairs in 1931-1934, who was murdered by a member of the OUN in 1934.

According to Mentzen, Kipiani is threatening him with death. The Confederation candidate noted in his post on Wednesday that the Ukrainian historian was honored with the Bandera decoration, as well as the Medal of Gratitude of the European Solidarity Center in Gdańsk.
"Ukrainians, by threatening the Polish MP with death, are once again showing their attitude towards Poland. They are demanding money from us, while at the same time continuing to honor the murderers of Poles, and are even announcing the murder of a Polish politician because I told the truth about them," Mentzen wrote.
"I expect that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by Radosław Sikorski, will react and will not allow further attacks by Ukrainians on our country," he added.
Poland and Ukraine have been divided for many years by their memories of the role of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, which committed genocidal ethnic cleansing of nearly 100,000 Polish men, women and children in 1943-45. While for the Polish side it was a condemnable crime of genocide (mass and organized), for the Ukrainians it was the result of a symmetrical armed conflict for which both sides were equally responsible. Additionally, Ukrainians want to perceive the OUN and UPA exclusively as anti-Soviet organizations (due to their post-war resistance movement against the USSR), and not anti-Polish. (PAP)
