Wolf under Polish house. This video became a hit, but what is behind it?
The network first reported that the recording came from Maków County in Mazovia. However, the author of the profile that published the video admitted in an interview with "Fakt" that he himself received it from someone else. The trail leads all the way to Szczecin , in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.
The recording shows an adult wolf striking a glass balcony door with force. The animal furiously throws itself against the glass, as if it wanted to break in. On the other side stands a terrified woman, motionless, watching the dangerous intruder. In the background, a male voice can be heard: "Catch Tobi!". After a moment, the wolf suddenly stops the attack, retreats and runs away into the unknown with its tail tucked between its legs. The recording, published on February 22, quickly went viral. The post is accompanied by the caption: "A wolf under a Polish house - yesterday's morning at Mr. Jakub's."
– This recording does not come from our district, I received it from a town located about 30 km from Szczecin – the person running the "Społecznicy z Okolicy" profile told us.
Officials confirm incidentOfficials confirmed that the incident did indeed take place in the West Pomeranian province. The Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Szczecin intervened and checked the area. The wolf that appeared under the house probably saw its reflection in the window and attacked it, thinking it was a... dog.
– Based on the collected materials, it was determined that a pair of wolves living in the area had ventured through an undeveloped field flanked on two sides by residential and farm buildings into the town, probably with the intention of eliminating competition in the form of dogs. After circling the buildings, the wolf most likely saw a reflection in the window and treated it as a competitor in the habitat – Krzysztof Adamczak, chief specialist at the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Szczecin, told Fakt.
According to officials, the loud sound of a human voice was enough to make the wolf retreat. The animal left the area and returned to its waiting partner, and the two fled into the forest.
– No harm came to the residents or their dogs – specialists from RDOŚ told us.
Is this a dangerous signal?Wolves in Poland are under strict protection, but their population is growing. Experts reassure us – wolves usually avoid people. To prevent similar situations, employees have deployed camera traps and are monitoring the area. “Residents have been informed about the applicable regulations and the possibility of seeking compensation in the event of damage,” adds Krzysztof Adamczak.
