The Prime Minister and the President exchange blows. Politicians argue about the elections

After Prime Minister Donald Tusk asked President Andrzej Duda whether he was not curious about the "real voting results" in the presidential elections, the latter stated that what the government was doing was "just stamping its feet". I am not curious about the results, because I know them; they were announced by the National Electoral Commission - stated the president.

On Saturday, the Prime Minister addressed President Andrzej Duda, Karol Nawrocki and Jarosław Kaczyński with the words: "You are not simply curious, as humans, about the real results of the vote? You certainly are. And as we know, honest people have nothing to fear," wrote Donald Tusk on the X portal.

"Mr. Donald Tusk and his colleagues cannot come to terms with losing the presidential election," President Andrzej Duda replied on the same website. He said that in his opinion, the problem is not the voters' decision itself, which he believes is "unambiguous," but rather the "mentality" of those currently in power. "You think you have to win and that's it!" the president added.

In his opinion, what the government is currently doing is "just stamping your feet". "You staffed all the election commissions with your people and the people in trust of your coalition candidates. You elected and have your own members of the State Electoral Commission. Companies commissioned by the media favoring your candidate did the research. And what?!? Did everyone cheat? Did everyone lie? Did your people count the votes incorrectly so that you would lose?" - we read in the president's post.

"No, Mr. Prime Minister. I am not curious about the results of the presidential elections, because I know them. They were officially announced by the National Electoral Commission. I know these results just like all Poles and politicians from all over the world who congratulated President-Elect Karol Nawrocki," he stated.

"However, I will repeat once again the advice I gave you recently, as the one who stands guard over the security of the state and the continuity of state power: stay away from the ballot papers from the presidential elections! I have no doubt that you must not be allowed to even touch the votes cast by citizens. This is a matter for the Supreme Court and the National Electoral Commission. The same Chamber of the Supreme Court that recognized the election results, thanks to which you now rule in Poland. The same Chamber, thanks to which you are now Prime Minister. Please, stop provocations, lies and pressure with your colleagues. This does not serve Poland and the sense of security of our compatriots. You have to know how to lose with dignity and respect the rules of democracy," the president concluded his post.

The PiS party leader Jarosław Kaczyński got involved in the discussion, noting that a recount of votes "is not provided for by law" and that the constitutional principle of legalism applies in Poland. Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, addressing Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Sejm Speaker Szymon Hołownia and New Left co-chair Włodzimierz Czarzasty, wrote: "The Prime Minister is a man of Silni Razem. Is it worth signing up to his madness?"

"Not everyone has understood what democracy is all about. Given the huge scale of errors in the commissions, a recount is necessary. Precisely to protect trust in democracy, elections and the state," said Marcin Kierwiński, Minister for Reconstruction after the Flood. Deputy Minister Arkadiusz Myrcha assessed that "today in Poland there is not a single person who is able to provide the number of votes obtained by the candidates." "The state of uncertainty is growing, and there are more and more questions and allegations. The situation is unprecedented," he added.

"I do not trust that the Ordo Iuris missionaries will impartially rule on the fairness of the elections. I would like to remind you that the court has ruled in a final and binding manner that I had the right to call them a fundamentalist sect," commented the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski.

According to data from the National Electoral Commission, Karol Nawrocki won 10,606,877 votes in the second round of the presidential elections, and Rafał Trzaskowski – 10,237,286.

For a dozen or so days, however, the media have been reporting on irregularities related to the counting of votes in some commissions during the second round of the presidential elections. Among other things, there were reports of cases where representatives of district commissions themselves reported post factum errors consisting in the reverse assignment of votes to candidates - votes cast for Rafał Trzaskowski were assigned to Karol Nawrocki. This was the case in District Electoral Commission No. 95 in Kraków, as well as District Electoral Commission No. 13 in Mińsk Mazowiecki.

Last week, in connection with the election protests filed, the Supreme Court decided to inspect ballots from a total of 13 district electoral commissions. Among these commissions were the ones discussed in the media from Kraków and Mińsk Mazowiecki. Inspections were also ordered then, among others, in relation to two District Electoral Commissions – No. 30 and 61 – from Bielsko-Biała.

On Friday, Supreme Court spokesman Aleksander Stępkowski told PAP that the number of all election protests could reach 50,000. According to the regulations introduced in 2018, during the PiS government, the Supreme Court's Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs Chamber, established at that time, is responsible for considering election protests and determining the validity of elections, the status of which - citing the rulings of international tribunals - is being questioned by the current government.
