The authorities of Krakow and the AGH University of Science and Technology signed a letter of intent on Tuesday regarding cooperation in the field of cybersecurity. According to the signatories of the agreement, the technological and scientific potential of the university can be a significant support for the city in responding to cyberattacks.

The ceremonial signing of the letter took place at the headquarters of the Academic Computer Center Cyfronet AGH. As part of the concluded agreement, the university and the city declared mutual notification of events and incidents related to cybersecurity and development of joint procedures for responding to threats.

It is also planned to implement the principles of monitoring the ICT infrastructure of the Kraków commune, enabling more effective detection and response to cyber threats, as well as to develop technologies and principles of data exchange for the purposes of joint analyses and scientific research.

The signatories of the agreement emphasized that the established cooperation aims to build a safer urban space that is more resistant to digital threats, using modern solutions developed by the academic and expert community.

As the mayor of Krakow, Aleksander Miszalski, emphasized, the city of the future must be built on digital security foundations.

"Krakow wants to be a leader in this field – not only react, but also anticipate threats. Thanks to cooperation with AGH and Cyfronet, we are combining the potential of science and administration in order to create a modern, resilient city ready for the challenges of the 21st century," noted the mayor of Krakow.

AGH Rector Prof. Jerzy Lis emphasized the importance of the agreement in the context of growing digital threats. "In the era of ubiquitous hacker attacks on institutions, offices, public and private facilities, all actions to strengthen and protect digital resources are becoming an absolute necessity," he indicated.

According to him, modern threats on the Internet are becoming increasingly complex, which is why cooperation between the scientific sector and public administration is needed.

"At AGH, we are developing modern tools and technologies supporting cybersecurity - this is the result of intensive work of our expert scientific community. We are glad that their potential can now make a real contribution to the protection of Krakow's residents and the city's digital infrastructure," noted the AGH Rector. (PAP)
