Why are the leaders in Rio?

Every year, the heads of state meet to discuss the suggested axes and sign the joint declaration.

Are BRICS and G20 the same thing?

No. The G20 brings together the world’s 19 largest economies plus the European Union — in practice, the “club” of the richest nations on Earth. The founders of the BRICS are members of the G20.

In practice, this means that the most powerful men and women in the world did not come to Rio — as was the case in November .

What are the traffic restrictions?

The most impactful blockages occur on Avenida Atlântica , in Copacabana, and Infante Dom Henrique , in Aterro do Flamengo.

On these roads, until midnight on Monday (7) , only delegation convoys will pass — and residents with proof of residence, in the case of Copacabana.

Buses and taxis will have to go “inside” — Flamengo Beach, Barata Ribeiro Street and Nossa Senhora de Copacabana Avenue.

But even pedestrians will be restricted from moving around these neighborhoods.

What are the prohibitions for pedestrians?

In parallel with the traffic closure, sidewalks and curbs on Atlântica and Aterro will be fenced until midnight on Monday .

The aim is to direct people to crossings with traffic lights (in Copacabana) and to underground passages (in Flamengo).

The landfill will have even more restrictions:

  • During the day, riding bicycles , scooters or quad bikes will not be permitted . Sharp objects , glass , umbrellas and flagpoles will also be seized .
  • From 8pm to 3am, until Monday , all these accesses will be closed .

Yes , and all stations will be open , unlike the G20, when some of them were closed due to security reasons. Metrô Rio reported that temporary changes in operations may occur to meet the demands of the authorities during the event.

VLT and Supervia did not foresee any changes in operations during the summit days.

No — and the suspension extends to Ipanema and Leblon .

The Night Fair (in front of the MIS), the Lido Fair and the open-air markets of Rainha Elizabeth and Serzedelo Correia will also not be open .

Will Santos Dumont work?

No. On Sunday and Monday, flights will be transferred to Galeão .

Who will have to work?

This Monday (7), the 2nd and last day of Brics in Rio, is a municipal holiday , but not everyone is off .

The purpose of the recess is to reduce movement in the South Zone of Rio , so that delegations can move around without problems.

Schools and educational institutions , for example, will not open .
