CDS-PP presented 18 candidates

CDS-PP presented 18 candidates

The CDS-PP today presented 18 candidates running for various local authorities in the country, 15 of which are on their own lists and three in coalition with the PSD, Nós Cidadãos! and IL.

The list of 18 names was presented during the CDS-PP municipal convention that took place in Albergaria-a-Velha, in the district of Aveiro, and marked the party's “formal start” of the 'campaign' for the elections on October 12.

Among the names presented is that of Fernando Arriscado, former leader of the Póvoa do Varzim council of Chega, who this year rejoined the CDS-PP, a party of which he was a member between 1975 and 2005, and will be the head of the centrist list for the local Council.

In the district of Braga, in Vieira do Minho, the CDS-PP candidate is the mayor Neli Mota Pereira and, in Vila Verde, the centrists will run in coalition with Nós Cidadãos!, in a list headed by Fernando Feitor, an independent councilor in the local authority after having disassociated himself from the Chega party in 2023.

In Alcochete (Setúbal district), the CDS-PP leads the coalition with the PSD and the candidate will be the president of the municipality João Marques and in Covilhã (Castelo Branco district) the head of the list of the CDS-PP/IL coalition will be the independent Eduardo Cavaco.

According to the same list, Luís Guimarães is the head of the list in Torre de Moncorvo (Bragança), António Nogueira in Gouveia (Guarda) and João Duarte in Oliveira do Hospital (Coimbra).

In the district of Viseu, the heads of the list Manuel Carvalho, in Armamar, Cristiano Paiva, in São Pedro do Sul, and Manuel Marques, in Nelas, were presented.

In Leiria, Branca Matos is the candidate for the district capital, Carlos Machado leads the list for the Óbidos Council and António Pelerito, in Peniche.

Finally, four candidates were presented in the district of Aveiro: Antero Almeida (Águeda), André Silva (Vale de Cambra), Carlos Coelho (Albergaria-a-Velha) and Hugo Santos (Vagos).

During the closing session, the party president, Nuno Melo, highlighted the CDS-PP's local government vocation, recalling that in the last local elections, in 2021, it won six municipal councils alone and elected 1,752 mayors.

“The CDS is now the fourth national political force in local government. The CDS currently has more mayors than Chega, Iniciativa Liberal, Bloco de Esquerda, PAN and Livre all together”,
