GNR reinforces forest fire surveillance

The GNR reported this Saturday that it activated eighty watch posts and more than 140 forest surveillance cameras to prevent and detect fires, as part of the Safe Forest Campaign.
In a statement, the National Republican Guard says that through the Nature and Environmental Protection Service (SEPNA), “it activated 80 Watch Posts (PV) of the Primary Network, which are manned by a total of 320 operators”.

“It is important to note that, from June 29th, 150 more Secondary Network Monitoring Posts will be added to these, which will be activated and manned by 600 additional operators”, adds the note.
Regarding awareness-raising actions, the National Republican Guard carried out, until May 7 , a total of 2,845 actions , reaching 55,150 people , with the aim of preventing risky behavior , promoting the adoption of self-protection measures and encouraging the responsible use of fire by communities.
According to the GNR, to date, “ 18 arrests have been recorded, of which 14 were in flagrante delicto , and 136 suspects have also been identified”.
At this stage, the military are on the ground, covering “ the fuel management strips of the priority parishes , with the aim of signaling and georeferencing rural land that, due to its location, presents a potential fire risk”, reads the note.
At the same time, the GNR is promoting information and awareness-raising actions among landowners, so that they voluntarily clean their land by May 31, 2025, preventing them from being in default after June 1, 2025.
According to the GNR, this phase of the campaign has as its main objective “ prevention with awareness-raising actions aimed at citizens and entities , with a view to changing behavior and adopting the best individual and collective security practices”.
“The main effort is being made to raise awareness of the importance of adopting self-protection measures and reducing the risk of fires,” reinforces the GNR.
The Safe Forest 2025 Campaign, which started on February 1st and runs until November 30th, “contributes decisively to a significant reduction in the number of serious incidents and the negative impacts they can cause on society”, he adds.
Finally, the GNR ensures that the protection of people and property, in the context of rural fires, continues to be “one of the strategic priorities, supported by preventive action and increased patrolling in forest areas”.
