England has been rocked by yet another sex scandal involving a former Premier League player. A leading figure in English football in the 1990s is alleged to have arranged meetings with a teenage girl, in which he paid large sums of money for sex, according to the newspaper ' The Athletic '.

The victim, who was 15 years old when the alleged crimes were committed, accuses the former player of rape and of causing her several mental health problems, including post-traumatic stress disorder. Now an adult, she claims that she was invited by the attacker to his house on a summer day in the 1990s, supposedly to discuss a job opportunity. That is when the abuse allegedly began, when the man began "showing her around the house and forced her to sit on his lap, asked her if she was still a virgin and offered her £150 in three £50 notes."

According to the British publication, the former footballer denies ever having raped or having had inappropriate relations with a minor. However, he admits to having asked the complainant, when she was 16 or 17 years old, "if she wanted to earn money for sex" and claims that she contacted him regularly to obtain large sums of money in exchange for sexual favors.
